Comanche County, Oklahoma

Comanche County is a county located in the U.S. state of Oklahoma. Built on former reservation lands of the Comanche, Kiowa, and Apache in Indian Territory, Comanche County was open for settlement on August 16, 1901 by lottery. The region has three cities and seven towns as well as the Fort Sill military instillation and Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge.

Ten Bears

Chief Ten Bears ("Padda-Wah-Ser-Man-Oh") - born Paruasemana (ca. 1790-November 23, 1872), became the paraivo or chief of the Ketahto ("Don't Wear Shoes") local group of Native Americans, and later the Principal Chief of the northern Yamparika or "Root Eater" division of the Numunuu Comanche, ca. 1850-60. As Comanche personal names are seldom translated into English, he is commonly known as Paruasemena.

Quanah Parker

Quanah Parker (ca. 1845 or 1852 – February 23, 1911) was Comanche/Scots-Irish from the Comanche band Noconis ("wanderers" or "travelers"), and emerged as a dominant figure, particularly after the 'Comanches' final defeat. The US appointed Quanah principal chief of the entire nation once the people had gathered on the reservation and later introduced general elections.

Cynthia Ann Parker

Cynthia Ann Parker, or Naduah (also sometimes spelled "Nadua" and "Nauta," meaning "someone found" or "Keeps Warm With Us"), (c. 1824–1870) was an American who was captured and kidnapped at the age of nine by a Comanche war band, who massacred her family’s settlement. She was adopted by the Comanche and lived with them for 24 years, completely forgetting her European ways.

Fort Sill
