Thatcher, Oregon

Thatcher is an unincorporated historic locale in Washington County, Oregon, United States. It was located about three miles north of Forest Grove at the intersection of Hillside and Thatcher roads. The community was named after pioneers Harmon and Jemima Thatcher, who came from Indiana soon after their marriage in 1847, first settling in Yamhill County, and later taking up a Donation Land Claim in the area that now bears their name.

Tillamook Burn

The Tillamook Burn was a series of forest fires in the Northern Oregon Coast Range of Oregon in the United States that destroyed a total area of 355,000 acres (554.7² miles/1,400 km²) of old growth timber in what is now known as the Tillamook State Forest. The fires spanned the years of 1933–1951. By association, the name Tillamook Burn also refers to the location of these fires. This event is an important part of the local history of Oregon.
