Rice, Oregon
Rice is an unincorporated community in Wasco County, Oregon, United States. Rice was named for Horace Rice, who settled on upper Fifteenmile Creek in the 1860s and who planted the first crop of wheat in upland Wasco County. When the Great Southern Railroad established a line into the area in 1905, Rice's name was given to the station.

Tygh Grade Summit
Tygh Grade Summit (el. 2697 ft. ) is a mountain pass in Oregon traversed by U.S. Route 197 and is located about 6.5 miles north of Tygh Valley. Careful readers will note that the elevation on the sign is slightly less than the advertised elevation. The discrepancy is accounted for in the fact the 2697 elevation reported is on an older alignment of the highway just slightly to the west of the current alignment, and is the elevation and benchmark shown on the USGS Topo maps.

Friend, Oregon
Friend is an unincorporated community in Wasco County, Oregon, United States. Considered a ghost town, little remains of the community except the Friend Store, a one-room schoolhouse, and a cemetery. Friend was named after George J. Friend. The first post office in the community, established in 1903, was on his homestead. Friend was the end of the line on the Great Southern Railroad. The line was built in 1908 from Dufur which connected to The Dalles.
