Wonder, Oregon

Wonder is an unincorporated community in Josephine County, Oregon, United States, on U.S. Route 199 about 13 miles west of Grants Pass and 8 miles east of Selma. It is within the Siskiyou National Forest. The town apparently got its name in 1902 after John T. Roberson opened a general store two miles south of Wilderville, and residents wondered how he would get enough business to make a living as the area did not have many settlers. Roberson began to call his store "Wonder Store".

Josephine County, Oregon

Josephine County is a county located in the U.S. state of Oregon. According to Oregon Geographic Names, the county is probably named after a stream in the area called Josephine Creek, which in turn is probably named after Virginia Josephine Rollins Ort. In 2010, its population was 82,713. Grants Pass is the county seat.

Dryden, Oregon

Dryden is an unincorporated community in Josephine County, Oregon, United States. It is located in the Deer Creek Valley about five miles east of Selma. As of 1990 only one house remained; the 1920 structure formerly served as the Dryden Store and post office. At one time Dryden also had a school. Dryden was named for English poet and playwright John Dryden by local pioneer J. P. Mills, who was an avid reader. Dryden post office was established in 1892; it closed in 1956.
