Modoc, South Carolina

Modoc is a census-designated place (CDP) in McCormick County, South Carolina, United States. The population was 256 at the 2000 census. It was named for the Modoc indigenous tribe of Northern California, some members of which had been captured after the Modoc War and sent, first to the Indian Territory and then, a few, on to an area on the left (east) bank of the Savannah River in what was then Edgefield County, South Carolina.

Steven's Creek Heritage Preserve

Steven's Creek Heritage Preserve is a nature preserve in the US State of South Carolina. It is managed by the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources. It covers 434 acres in McCormick County and Edgefield County, and was established to protect rare animal and plant species. Webster's Salamander and Miccosukee gooseberry are among the species which have few populations outside the preserve. The nearest population center is Clarks Hill, about two road miles (3-4 km) to the southwest.

Lake Strom Thurmond

Lake Strom Thurmond, known in Georgia as Clarks Hill Lake, is a reservoir at the border between Georgia and South Carolina in the Savannah River Basin. It was created by the J. Strom Thurmond Dam during 1951 and 1952 by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers near the confluence of the "Little River" and the Savannah River.
