Wheeler County is a county located in the U.S. state of Texas. As of the 2010 census, its population was 5,410. Its county seat is Wheeler. Officially formed in 1876, the county is named for Royal Tyler Wheeler, a chief justice of the Texas Supreme Court. Wheeler County is one of 30 prohibition or entirely dry counties in the state of Texas. The Pioneer West Museum, the Wheeler County historical museum, is located in Shamrock off U.S. Highway 83.

The towns of Mobeetie, Texas, a Native American word meaning "sweetwater," and Sweetwater, Oklahoma are named for the creek.

Allison, Texas
Allison is an unincorporated community in northeastern Wheeler County, Texas, United States, at the junction of Texas Farm roads 1046 and 277. Founded in 1929 as a stop for the Panhandle and Santa Fe Railway, the town was named for the general manager of the railroad, R. H. Allison. The Lone Star Townsite Company laid out the town. The town reached its height in population in 1941, just before the country entered World War II, at 200. It had a population of approximately 135 in 2000.
