McKinney is a city in and the county seat of Collin County, Texas, United States, and the second in population to Plano. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the city's 2010 population was 131,117 making it the nineteenth most populous city in the state of Texas. The Census Bureau listed McKinney as the nation's fastest growing city from 2000 to 2003 and again in 2006, among cities with more than 50,000 people.

Serenity High School
Serenity High School is the oldest substance-abuse recovery public high school in Texas. It was founded in 1999 as a partnership between the McKinney Independent School District and the Avenues Counseling Center in McKinney, Texas, and serves several school districts in and around Collin County, Texas. As of November 2008, it has served over 150 graduates from over 25 high schools. The school was rated Academically Acceptable in the 2009 TEA accountability rating.

Collin County Regional Airport at McKinney is a public use airport located 30 miles north of Dallas, Texas. Although most U.S. airports use the same three-letter location identifier for the FAA and IATA, this airport is assigned TKI by the FAA but has no designation from the IATA. The airport is used entirely for general aviation purposes and serves as a reliever airport for Dallas Love Field.

Its seat is McKinney. Both the county and the county seat were named after Collin McKinney (1766 - 1861), one of the five men who drafted the Texas Declaration of Independence and the oldest of the 59 men who signed it. Collin County is part of the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex.
