New Braunfels Listen/ˌnjuː ˈbrɔːnfəlz/ is a city in Comal and Guadalupe counties in the U.S. state of Texas. Braunfels means "brown rock" in German; the city is named for Braunfels, in Germany. The city's population was 57,740 as of the 2010 census, up 58% from the 2000 census population of 36,494. It is the seat of Comal County. New Braunfels has a sizeable German Texan community. During the 19th century, its name was often spelled Neu-Braunfels, even by English speakers.

Comal River
The Comal River is the shortest navigable river in the state of Texas in the United States. Proclaimed the "longest shortest river in the world" by locals, it runs entirely within the city limits of New Braunfels in southeast Comal County. It is a tributary of the Guadalupe River. The Comal begins at Comal Springs in Landa Park and flows 2.5 miles until its junction with the Guadalupe. The Comal was originally called the Little Guadalupe in early Spanish accounts.

Since then, Schlitterbahn has developed three waterparks located in Texas and one in Kansas City, Kansas. Schlitterbahn Waterparks are summer seasonal parks. They typically operate from late April to mid-September.

New Braunfels High School
New Braunfels High School (commonly referred to as NBHS) is a public, co-educational secondary school in New Braunfels, Texas that was established in 1845. Up until 2008, New Braunfels was one of the largest, 4A, high schools in Texas. In the Spring of 2008, bi-annual University Interscholastic League (UIL) enrollment re-alignment reclassified New Braunfels as a 5A school and moved it to District 26-5A. In 2011, the school was rated "Academically Acceptable" by the Texas Education Agency.
