Grand Isle Vermont Senate District, 2002–2012

The Grand Isle Senate District is one of 13 Vermont Senate districts included in the redistricting and reapportionment plan developed by the Vermont General Assembly following the 2000 U.S. Census. The plan applies to legislatures elected in 2002, 2004, 2006, 2008, and 2010. A new plan will be developed in 2012 following the 2010 U.S. Census.

Cedar Island is a 10-acre (4 ha) island located in Lake Champlain. It is the southern-most of three islands to the east of South Hero, Vermont. Cedar Island lies approximately two miles (3.2 km) north of the Sand Bar Bridge. Cedar Island is privately owned and accessible only by boat.

Battle of Plattsburgh

The Battle of Plattsburgh, also known as the Battle of Lake Champlain, ended the final invasion of the northern states of the United States during the War of 1812. A British army under Lieutenant General Sir George Prévost and a naval squadron under Captain George Downie converged on the lakeside town of Plattsburgh, which was defended by American troops under Brigadier General Alexander Macomb and ships commanded by Master Commandant Thomas Macdonough.
