Pendleton County is a county located in the U.S. state of West Virginia. It was created by the Virginia General Assembly in 1787 which became effective in 1788 from parts of Augusta, Hardy, and Rockingham Counties and was named for Edmund Pendleton (1721–1803), a distinguished Virginia statesman and jurist.

Wild Oak Trail
The Wild Oak Trail is a 25.6-mile National Recreation Trail located in the Ridge-and-Valley Appalachians in Central Virginia. It is part of George Washington National Forest. The trail is a loop, and begins at the headwaters of the North River, and traverses up to several ridge tops. Due to the trail's difficulty and length, it sees little traffic.
