Preston County, West Virginia

Preston County is a county located in the U.S. state of West Virginia. It is part of the Morgantown, West Virginia, Metropolitan Statistical Area and the Pittsburgh DMA. It was formed from Monongalia County in 1818 and named for Virginia Governor James Patton Preston. As of the 2010 census, the population was 33,520. Its county seat is Kingwood. For media market purposes the county is defined entirely as part of the Pittsburgh market.

Camp Dawson (West Virginia)

Camp Dawson is a West Virginia Army National Guard facility in Preston County, West Virginia, USA. Camp Dawson was established on May 7, 1909 when the West Virginia Legislature authorized the purchase of 196.5 acres of land on Dunkard Bottom along the Cheat River. The camp was named in honor of William M. O. Dawson, a native of Preston County, who had served as governor of the state from 1905-1908. Troops first trained at Camp Dawson during that summer and continued until the entry of the U.S.
