Los Roques Airport

Los Roques Airport (Spanish: Aeropuerto Los Roques) – a small domestic airport on the El Gran Roque island in the Los Roques archipelago off the coast of mainland Venezuela, some 130 km north of Caracas. It serves small turboprop traffic or STOL aircraft, possessing a 1000 x 26 meters RWY 07/25, which has been recently repaved in the summer of 2007. The airport is remotely controlled from Simón Bolívar International Airport.

Gran Roque is an island, one of the federal dependencies of Venezuela, located in the southeastern Caribbean Sea in the archipelago of Los Roques, which has 1.7 km² (170 ha) in extent, where the majority of the population lives. The airport is located by the sea, a few meters from the beach.

Los Roques archipelago

Los Roques archipelago is a federal dependency of Venezuela consisting of approximately 350 islands, cays, and islets in a total area of 40.61 square kilometers. The archipelago is located 128 kilometers directly north of the port of La Guaira. The islands' pristine coral reef attracts many wealthy visitors, especially from Europe, some of whom come in their own yachts and anchor in the inner, protected shallow waters. Development and tourism are controlled.
