The Mekong Delta (Vietnamese: Đồng bằng Sông Cửu Long “Nine Dragon river delta”) is the region in southwestern Vietnam where the Mekong River approaches and empties into the sea through a network of distributaries. The Mekong delta region encompasses a large portion of southwestern Vietnam of 39,000 square kilometres . The size of the area covered by water depends on the season. Cần Thơ Bridge
Cần Thơ Bridge is a cable-stayed bridge over the Hậu River, the largest distributary of the Mekong River, in the city of Cần Thơ in southern Vietnam. The bridge is 2.75 kilometres long (1.68 miles). It has a 6-lane carriageway measuring 23 metres (76 feet) in width, with 4 lanes for traffic and two pedestrian lanes. It has a clearance of 39 metres (128 feet), which allows large ships to pass underneath it. The bridge was inaugurated on April 24, 2010.

Cai Rang District
Cái Răng is an urban district of Can Tho in the Mekong Delta region of Vietnam. As of 2003 the district had a population of 77,292. This increased to 82,152 in 2007. The district covers an area of 63 km². Cai Rang District was established by Decree No. 05/2004/ND-CP on January 2, 2004. The district borders Vinh Long to the east, and also Tay Phong Dien district, Hau Giang province, and Bac Ninh Kieu district.

It had a population of 1.2 million as of 2011, and is located on the south bank of the Hau River, a branch of the Mekong. Collapse of Cần Thơ Bridge
The collapse of Cần Thơ Bridge was a severe construction accident in southern Vietnam. The accident occurred at 8 am local time on the morning of September 26, 2007, when a 90 metre section of an approach ramp, which was over 30 metres above the ground, collapsed. There were 250 engineers and workers working on and under the span at the time it collapsed. As of September 27, the number of casualties remains unclear; one source says that there were 52 people dead and 140 injured.
