Nari (Naray) District is a boundary mountainous district in the most eastern part of Kunar Province in Afghanistan. It borders Bar Kunar District to the west, Nuristan Province to the north, Pakistan to the east and Dangam district to the south. The population is 24,500 (2006)—60% of them Pashtun. The district center is the village of Nari (Naray) {{#invoke:Coordinates|coord}}{{#coordinates:35.2103|N|71.5250|E||||| | |name= }} at 1153 m altitude in a river valley. Bar Kunar District

Bar Kunar District is situated in the northeastern part of Kunar Province, Afghanistan. It borders Asadabad district to the southwest, Nuristan Province to the northwest, Nari district to the northeast and Dangam district to the southeast. The population is 19,500 (2006) - all Pashtun. The district center is the village of Asmãr at 983 m altitude in a river valley, located in the most southern part of the district.

Asmar

Asmar is one of the major cities in northeastern of Kunar province of Afghanistan and is the district center of Bar Kunar district, which is located in the most southern part of the district at 983 m altitude in a river valley.

Dangam District

Dangam District is situated in the eastern end of Kunar Province, Afghanistan. It borders Marawara district to the west, Asadabad district to the northwest, Bar Kunar district to the north, Nari district to the northeast and Pakistan to the east and south. The district is mountainous and poor. The population is 15,000 (2006), and is 98% Pashtun and 2% Tajik. There are 50 sub-villages and the district center is Dangam at 1356 m altitude, located in the central part of the district.

Gawar-Bati language

Gawar-Bati is known in Chitral as Aranduyiwar, because it is spoken in Village Arandu, which is the last village in the bottom of Chitral and is across the Kunar River from Berkot in Afghanistan. Chitral keeps a military base in Arandu to guard against an attack by Afghanistan. There are 9,000 speakers of Gawar-Bati, but only 1,500 are in Pakistan. The rest are in Afghanistan.
