Gawar-Bati language

Gawar-Bati is known in Chitral as Aranduyiwar, because it is spoken in Village Arandu, which is the last village in the bottom of Chitral and is across the Kunar River from Berkot in Afghanistan. Chitral keeps a military base in Arandu to guard against an attack by Afghanistan. There are 9,000 speakers of Gawar-Bati, but only 1,500 are in Pakistan. The rest are in Afghanistan.

Nari District

Nari (Naray) District is a boundary mountainous district in the most eastern part of Kunar Province in Afghanistan. It borders Bar Kunar District to the west, Nuristan Province to the north, Pakistan to the east and Dangam district to the south. The population is 24,500 (2006)—60% of them Pashtun. The district center is the village of Nari (Naray) {{#invoke:Coordinates|coord}}{{#coordinates:35.2103|N|71.5250|E||||| | |name= }} at 1153 m altitude in a river valley. The arable land is not enough.

Battle of Kamdesh

The Battle of Kamdesh took place during the War in Afghanistan. It occurred on October 3, 2009, when a force of 300 Taliban assaulted the American Combat Outpost ("COP") Keating near the town of Kamdesh of Nuristan province in eastern Afghanistan. The attack was the bloodiest battle for US forces since the Battle of Wanat in July 2008, which occurred 20 miles away from Kamdesh. The attack on COP Keating resulted in eight Americans killed and 22 wounded.

Kamdesh, Nuristan

Kāmdīsh or Kāmdēsh (کامدیش) is a village, located in the Bashgal Valley, in Nurestan Province, Afghanistan. It is the capital of the Kamdesh District. Kamdesh is a village within the Landai Sind Valley. It stands as the cultural and administrative hub of the Kamdish District and all of Eastern Nuristan. Kamdesh literally means "Place of the Kom", as it is the unofficial Capital for the Kom tribe.
