The Shire of Bass was a local government area about 120 kilometres south-southeast of Melbourne, the state capital of Victoria, Australia. The shire covered an area of 526 square kilometres, and existed from 1871 until 1994. Its administrative centre was located in Archies Creek.

Archies Creek is a small town in Victoria, Australia. It is located on Dalyston - Korumburra Road, in the Bass Coast Shire, north-west of Wonthaggi. The Post Office, Archie's Creek, opened on 17 November 1899 and closed in 1986. Archies Creek was the seat of the Shire of Bass until it amalgamated in 1994.

Dalyston railway station
Dalyston was a railway station on the Wonthaggi line along the Bass Coast, Victoria. The station operated until the line's closure in 1978. There is almost no trace left of Dalyston Station; the site of the station is now part of the Bass Coast Rail Trail. Shortly after this station the line branched off to Dudley Area, one of the many "mining branches" on the line.

Bass Coast Shire is a local government area in Victoria, Australia in the south-east of the state, less than 90 minutes from Melbourne, and includes the popular tourist destination, Phillip Island. It has an area of 859 square kilometres and has an estimated population of 29,581 people. It was formed in December 1994 from the merger of the Shire of Bass, Shire of Phillip Island, Borough of Wonthaggi and parts of the Shire of Woorayl, Shire of Korumburra and Shire of Cranbourne.

State Mine railway station
State Mine was a railway yard and signal box on the Wonthaggi line along the Bass Coast, Victoria, Australia. It was named for and served the adjacent State Coal Mine which provided black coal for the steam locomotives of the Victorian Railways. The mine opened in 1909 with the branchline opened in 1910. Production declined in the 1930s as larger seams were worked out but remained in operation until 1968 when regular steam operations were phased out.
