Tree of Life, Bahrain

The Tree of Life (Shajarat-al-Hayat) in Bahrain is approximately 400 year-old, 32 feet or 9.75 m high Prosopis cineraria tree located 1.2 miles or 2 kilometers from Jebel Dukhan. The tree stands on top of a 25-foot or 7.6-m high sandy hill. The tree is a local tourist attraction, as it is the only major tree growing in the area. The tree is visited by approximately 50,000 tourists every year and the tree often is damaged by graffiti carvings.

Bahrain

Bahrain, officially the Kingdom of Bahrain is a small island country situated near the western shores of the Persian Gulf. It is an archipelago of 33 islands, the largest being Bahrain Island, at 55 km long by 18 km wide. Saudi Arabia lies to the west and is connected to Bahrain by the King Fahd Causeway. Iran lies 200 km to the north of Bahrain, across the Gulf. The peninsula of Qatar is to the southeast across the Gulf of Bahrain.

Bahrain Grand Prix

The Bahrain Grand Prix is a Formula One Championship race in Bahrain sponsored by Gulf Air. The first race took place at the Bahrain International Circuit on 4 April 2004. It made history as the first Formula One Grand Prix to be held in the Middle East, and was given the award for the "Best Organised Grand Prix" by the FIA. The Bahrain Grand Prix has usually been the third race of the Formula One calendar.

2005 Bahrain Grand Prix

The 2005 Bahrain Grand Prix was a Formula One motor race held on 3 April, 2005 at the Bahrain International Circuit in Sakhir, Bahrain. The race, contested over 57 laps, was the third round of the 2005 Formula One season and the second running of the Bahrain Grand Prix, since its inception the year before. The race was won by polesitter and championship leader Fernando Alonso for the Renault team.

2008 Bahrain Grand Prix

The 2008 Bahrain Grand Prix (formally the V Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix) was a Formula One motor race held on April 6, 2008 at the Bahrain International Circuit, in Sakhir, Bahrain. It was the third race of the 2008 Formula One season. The race, contested over 57 laps, was won by Felipe Massa for the Ferrari team. Kimi Räikkönen was second in the other Ferrari, and BMW Sauber driver Robert Kubica was third.
