Laki, Bulgaria

Laki is a small town in the Plovdiv Province, southern Bulgaria. As of 2006 it has 2,615 inhabitants. It is located in the Rhodope mountains at 54 km to the south of the province capital Plovdiv and at 88 to the north of Smolyan. There is a lead-zinc flotation factory, several textile plants and timber workshops.

Rozhen Observatory

Rozhen Observatory (Bulgarian: Национална астрономическа обсерватория "Рожен", НАО-Рожен - NAO-Rozhen) is a Bulgarian astronomical observatory, located 90 km south of the city of Plovdiv, Bulgaria. The nearest town, Chepelare, is 15 km away. It is owned and operated by the Institute of Astronomy of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences. The Observatory is the largest in Eastern Europe and has an active team of about 50 astronomers. It is the principal center for astronomical research in Bulgaria.

Momchilovtsi

Momchilovtsi (Момчиловци) is a Bulgarian village and ski resort in the Central Rhodopes, about 15 km northeast of Smolyan. It has an ethnographic museum, an art gallery and a number of churches and chapels (24 in the village and the vicinity), the most famous of which is the SS. Constantine and Helen Church built in 1836. The houses, mostly large 2- or 3-storey buildings, are amphitheatrically set at 1,352 m above sea level.

Davidkovo

Davidkovo is a village in the Central Rhodope Mountains of southernmost Bulgaria, part of Banite municipality, Smolyan Province. As of September 2006 it has a population of 971 and the mayor is Velin Glushkov. Davidkovo lies at {{#invoke:Coordinates|coord}}{{#coordinates:41|40|N|24|58|E||| | |name= }}, at around 1000 m above sea level. The distance to Banite is 15 km, to Smolyan — 66 km, and to the capital city Sofia — 177 km.

Chepelare River

The Chepelare River (Bulgarian: Чепеларска река, Chepelarska reka, also called Chaya, Чая and Asenitsa, Асеница) is a river in Bulgaria that takes its source from Rozhen Peak (around 1,500 m above sea level) in the Rhodopes. The river's length is about 87 km and two hydroelectric plants are constructed on it, with a total maximum power of 2,400 kW.
