Rozhen Observatory

Rozhen Observatory (Bulgarian: Национална астрономическа обсерватория "Рожен", НАО-Рожен - NAO-Rozhen) is a Bulgarian astronomical observatory, located 90 km south of the city of Plovdiv, Bulgaria. The nearest town, Chepelare, is 15 km away. It is owned and operated by the Institute of Astronomy of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences. The Observatory is the largest in Eastern Europe and has an active team of about 50 astronomers. It is the principal center for astronomical research in Bulgaria.

Pamporovo

Pamporovo is a popular ski resort in Smolyan Province, southern Bulgaria, one of the best-known in Southeastern Europe. It is set amongst magnificent pine forests and is primarily visited during the winter for skiing and snowboarding. It is also a popular tourist place in summer. The hub of Pamporovo comprises a number of excellent hotels and bars. It is also one of the southernmost skiing resorts in Europe. It is a family-friendly resort and suited for complete beginners and intermediates.

Shiroka Laka

Shiroka Laka (Bulgarian: Широка лъка, "wide meander") is a village in the very south of Bulgaria, located in Smolyan municipality, Smolyan Province. It is a proclaimed architectural and folklore reserve and lies in the central Rhodope Mountains, 23 northwest of Smolyan, 16 km from Pamporovo and 22 southeast of Devin. The dominant and traditional religion in the village is Eastern Orthodox Christianity and the population is 573 (as of September 2005).

Snezhanka Tower

This article is about the TV tower. For other uses, see Snezhanka (disambiguation). Snezhanka Tower (кула „Снежанка“) is a 156-metre-high television tower built of reinforced concrete with an observation deck near Pamporovo, Bulgaria. Snezhanka Tower is situated on Snezhanka Peak, at 1928 m above sea level. The tower has a café with a panoramic view of the Rhodope, the Rila and the Pirin Mountains, even the Aegean Sea being visible on a clear day.

Momchilovtsi

Momchilovtsi (Момчиловци) is a Bulgarian village and ski resort in the Central Rhodopes, about 15 km northeast of Smolyan. It has an ethnographic museum, an art gallery and a number of churches and chapels (24 in the village and the vicinity), the most famous of which is the SS. Constantine and Helen Church built in 1836. The houses, mostly large 2- or 3-storey buildings, are amphitheatrically set at 1,352 m above sea level.
