Bahía de Portete (Bahia Portete) is a bay in La Guajira, Colombia. It lies approximately 30 miles from the Venezuelan border on the Guajira Peninsula in the northeast region of Colombia. The bay opens to the Caribbean Sea. A large coal terminal lies at the mouth of the bay, and the bay's inlet is less than 1 mile wide. The Puerto Bolivar Airport is the closest airport to the bay.

La Guajira Desert

La Guajira Desert is located in the northernmost part of Colombia, 610 km north of Bogota, in the La Guajira Department, covering most of La Guajira Peninsula including Venezuelan territory. The area holds immense coal reserves, exploited in a zone known as El Cerrejon. The area is also home to the indigenous Wayuu people. The Wayuu are mostly herders. They also are master deep sea divers. They dive to collect pearls. and There is also a variety of desert flora and fauna.
