Prodromos (Cyprus)

Prodromos is the main centre for winter sport in Cyprus. Cyprus' three ski slopes are located on nearby Mount Olympus. The village belongs to Limassol District. The number of inhabitants has decreased steadily in the past years, at last count (2001) there were 147 left. http://www. prodromos. org. cy/english/history. shtm. Prodromos is also the village with the highest altitude in Cyprus, being situated at 1,380 metres above sea level.

Kykkos Monastery

The Holy, Royal and Stavropegic Monastery of Kykkos, which lies 20 km west of Pedoulas, is one of the wealthiest and best-known monasteries in Cyprus. The Holy Monastery of the Virgin of Kykkos was founded around the end of the 11th century by the Byzantine emperor Alexios I Komnenos (1081 - 1118). The monastery lies at an altitude of 1318 meters on the north west face of Troödos Mountains. There are no remains of the original monastery as it was burned down many times.

RAF Troodos

Royal Air Force Station Troödos, commonly known as RAF Troödos, is a Royal Air Force station in Cyprus. RAF Troödos is a remote Signals Station run by 27 personnel from Golf Section, Joint Service Signal Unit (Cyprus), and also contains Mount Olympus Radar Station. The station is based deep within the Troödos Mountains, approximately 100 miles from Ayios Nikolaos.

Troodos Mountains

Troodos (Greek: Τρόοδος is the largest mountain range of Cyprus, located in the center of the island. Troodos' highest peak is Mount Olympus at 1,952 meters which also hosts 4 ski slopes. The Troodos mountain range stretches across most of the western side of Cyprus. There are many famous mountain resorts, Byzantine monasteries and churches on mountain peaks, and nestling in its valleys and picturesque mountains are villages clinging to terraced hill slopes.

Marathasa Valley

Marathassa Valley is a beautiful and fertile valley in the Troödos Mountains of Cyprus. It takes its name from the plant Marathos, a type of fennel which grows in the area. The area is known for its splendid cherries. The valley is about a 65 km drive from Limassol. It is to the north of Mount Olympus and it extends into the administrative territory of both Nicosia and Limassol district.
