Přední kout

Přední kout is a small hill in the South Moravia, Czech Republic. With an altitude of 410 m it is the highest elevation in the hilly landscape around Hustopeče. It is located half way between the villages of Diváky and Kurdějov and its exact geographic coordinates are {{#invoke:Coordinates|coord}}{{#coordinates:48|58|15|N|16|46|47|E| |primary |name= }}. Blučina

Blučina is a village and municipality in Brno-Country District in the South Moravian Region of the Czech Republic, some 8 km south of Brno. The municipality covers an area of 16.67 square kilometres, and has a population of 2,039 (as at 3 July 2006). Blučina is known for the Blučina burial, an important Migration period (5th century) burial, discovered in 1953, located on Cezany hill, above the confluence of the Cezava and Svratka rivers.

Šakvice train disaster

The Šakvice train disaster occurred on 24 December 1953 in Czechoslovakia. A local train was standing at the Šakvice station near Brno, when the Prague-Bratislava express ran into it, resulting in 103 deaths and a further 83 injured. The Ministry of the Interior said there was gross negligence by a number of railway men who had since been arrested. Other reports said that the express train crew had consumed a number of bottles of wine. Other sources have over 100 or 186 deaths.
