Sharm el-Sheikh International Airport
Sharm el-Sheikh International Airport, formerly known as Ophira International Airport, is an international airport located in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt. Opened on May 14, 1968, the airport was originally an Israeli Air Force base and also served the small settlement of Ofira, before the territory was returned to Egypt following the Camp David Accords. In 2008, the Egyptian Airports Holding Company announced plans to build a third new terminal at the airport.

Straits of Tiran
The Straits of Tiran, are the narrow sea passages, about 13 km wide, between the Sinai and Arabian peninsulas which separate the Gulf of Aqaba from the Red Sea. It is named after Tiran Island located at its inflow, on which the Multinational Force and Observers has an observation post to monitor the compliance of Egypt in maintaining freedom of navigation of the straits as provided under the Israel-Egypt Peace Treaty.

Ghazala Gardens hotel
The Ghazala Gardens hotel (فندق غزالة) was a 176-room, four-star establishment in the Naama Bay area of the Egyptian beach resort of Sharm el-Sheikh, on the Sinai Peninsula. Its sister hotel, the Ghazala, is across the street and is substantially larger. On July 23, 2005 at about 01:15 local time a terrorist drove a pickup truck laden with explosives through the glass façade and into the front lobby. Seconds later, the truck exploded, killing a number of people and razing the lobby.

Ofira Air Battle
The Ofira Air Battle was one of the first air battles of the Yom Kippur War. On 6 October 1973, Egypt launched a massive surprise attack on Israel that included over 200 Egyptian aircraft participating in an opening airstrike. In one of the first engagements near Israeli Air Force Base Ofir at Sharm el-Sheikh, on the southern tip of the Sinai Peninsula, two Israeli Phantoms engaged 20 Egyptian Air Force MiG-17s and their eight MiG-21 escorts on their way to attack Israeli positions in the area.

Tiran Island
Tiran is an Egyptian-administered island that is also claimed by Saudi Arabia. It is located at the entrance of the Straits of Tiran, which separates the Red Sea from the Gulf of Aqaba. It has an area of about 80 km (30 sq mi). It is part of the Ras Muhammad National Park. Tiran Island is of strategic significance in the area, as it forms the narrowest section of the Straits of Tiran, which is an important sea passage to the major ports of Aqaba in Jordan and Eilat in Israel.
