Castle of Boutavent

The castle of Boutavent is in Iffendic, France. The ruins of the castle, built in the Middle Ages, are on a natural rocky spur at the place name Boutavent. The land, surrounded by the forest of Paimpont and the pond of Boutavent, stretches over more that 2 hectares. It has been confirmed that during the 13th and 14th century, the castle belonged to the Lords of Montfort. It was also part of the goods of the family of Montfort with the Comper, Montfort, Montauban and Gaël castles.

Abbey of St Meen

The Abbey of Saint Meen (French: Abbaye Saint-Jean de Gaël and later Abbaye de Saint-Méen) is an abbey in Saint-Méen-le-Grand in Brittany. It was founded in the 6th century by Saint Meven (Méen), after whom it was eventually named. The original foundation had fallen into disuse by the end of the eighth century. Hélocar, bishop of Alet, refounded it in 818. It was destroyed by Vikings in 919. About a century later, it was reconstructed as a Benedictine monastery.

Château de Comper

The Château de Comper is a castle located in Paimpont forest (former known as Brocéliande), three kilometers to the east of the village of Concoret in the département of Morbihan in the region of Brittany, France. It has been rebuilt as a château. The name Comper, like Quimper, probably comes from the Breton word kemper, which means confluence. The castle is surrounded by several streams and lakes.

Paimpont forest

Paimpont forest, sometimes said to be the Arthurian Brocéliande, is in the French commune of Paimpont, near the city of Rennes in Brittany. As Brocéliande it had a reputation in the Medieval imagination as a place of magic and mystery. It is the setting of a number of adventures in Arthurian legend, notably Chrétien de Troyes's Yvain, the Knight of the Lion, and locals claim the tree in which the Lady of the Lake supposedly imprisoned Merlin can still be seen today.
