Battle of Martqopi

The Battle of Martqopi was a 1625 military confrontation between Georgia and Iran. The Georgians' 15,000 men strong force, led by general Giorgi Saakadze, annihilated a 30,000 men strong Iranian detachment of Shah-Abbas I. In spring 1625, in order to avoid a forthcoming revolt, Shah-Abbas I sent 60,000 of his troops into Georgia under the orders of Qarciha-Khan. He attempted to carry out the policy of wholesale massacre and deportation in Kartli.

2009 Georgian mutiny

The 2009 Georgian mutiny was a mutiny by a Georgian Army tank battalion based in Mukhrovani, Georgia, 30 kilometres east of the capital Tbilisi on 5 May 2009. It is not yet known how many soldiers took part. Later that day, the Georgian Ministry of Interior announced that the mutineers had surrendered. Some of its leaders, including the battalion's commander, were arrested; others managed to escape.

Mutso

Vaziani Military Base

The Vaziani Military Base is located about twenty kilometers outside Tbilisi at Latitude 41.6947 Longitude 45.0467, Georgia. The main base is spread over 10,000 hectares. The Vaziani airfield—location: {{#invoke:Coordinates|coord}}{{#coordinates:41|37|41|N|45|1|51|E|region:GE-KK_type:airport | |name= }}—has strategic importance as its concrete landing-strip is suitable for middle (Il-76M) and heavy (An-124 "Ruslan") transport aircraft.
