Ostvorpommern

Ostvorpommern was a Kreis (district) in the eastern part of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Germany. The district was created on June 12, 1994 by merging the former districts of Anklam, Greifswald and Wolgast. It was merged into Vorpommern-Greifswald on 4 September 2011. Neighboring districts were (from east clockwise) Uecker-Randow, Mecklenburg-Strelitz, Demmin and Nordvorpommern. The Hanseatic city of Greifswald was enclosed by the district, but did not belong to it.

Altes Lager (Menzlin)

Altes Lager (German for "Old Camp") is a site 1.5 kilometres south of the Menzlin village near Anklam, Western Pomerania, Germany. The site at the banks of the river Peene was an important Viking trade post during the Middle Ages. By that time, Pomerania was inhabited by Slavic Wends, yet several Viking trade posts were set up along the coast. The settlement had an approximated size of 18 hectares in the 9th century. Remnants of a bridge and a cemetery were excavated.

Stolpe Abbey

Stolpe Abbey (German: Kloster Stolpe}; founded 1153, dissolved 1534) was the first monastery in Pomerania. It was located on the southern bank of the Peene River between Gützkow and Anklam near the village of Stolpe. Ratibor I, Duke of Pomerania, founded the abbey on 3 May 1153 in memory of his brother Wartislaw I.
