Interesting facts about this location
Dänholm
Dänholm (literally Danes' Isle) is a small island on the German coast of the Baltic Sea. It is situated in the Strelasund just east of Stralsund. Both bridges linking Rügen with the mainland, Rügendamm and Rügenbrücke, run over it. The island was the scene of an incident between the Swedish and French armies in 1807, when it belonged to Swedish Pomerania.

Strelasund Crossing
The Strelasund Crossing refers to the two bridge links to the German island of Rügen over the Strelasund to the West Pomeranian mainland near Stralsund, the Rügen Bridge and the Rügen Causeway (Rügendamm), as well as the regular ferry services between Stralsund and Altefähr and between Stahlbrode and Glewitz. The Rügen Causeway was the first fixed crossing over the sound of Strelasund, for both the old Bundesstraße 96, the Stralsund–Sassnitz railway and a combined footpath and cycle path.

Helgoland Habitat
The Helgoland underwater laboratory (UWL) is an underwater habitat. It was built in Lübeck, Germany in 1968, and was the first of its kind in the world built for use in colder waters. The 14 meter long, 7 meter wide and 7 meter high UWL meant that divers were able to spend several weeks under water using saturation diving techniques. The scientists and technicians would live and work in the laboratory, returning to it after every diving session.

Strelasund
The Strelasund or Strela Sound is a sound or lagoon of the Baltic Sea which separates Rügen from the German mainland. It is crossed by a road and rail bridge called the Rügendamm in Stralsund. It runs in a roughly northwest-to-southeast direction from a small shallow bay just north of Stralsund called the Kubitzer Bodden through to another such bay, the Greifswalder Bodden in the southeast. The sound is nowhere much more than 3 km wide, reaching its greatest width towards its southeast end.

Liebitz
The German island of Liebitz lies in the lagoon of Kubitzer Bodden about 700 metres west of Germany's largest island, Rügen, in the state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. It belongs to the municipality of Dreschvitz. The island is about 1,000 × 700 metres across and has an area of about 64 ha. In the west of this low island, only a few metres high, is the island's Pleistocene core, which is increasingly being eroded by the water. In the east there are flat salt meadows.
