Görmitz
Görmitz is a small island in the Achterwasser lagoon or bodden on the island of Usedom. The island is a nature reserve, which is managed by the Jordsand Society for the Protection of Seabirds and Nature (Verein Jordsand zum Schutze der Seevögel und der Natur). Görmitz belongs to the parish of Lütow in the Amt of Am Peenestrom. In the south of the island there is an inhabited farm, the remains of a holiday home and a beacon.

Achterwasser
The Achterwasser (Low German achtern = "rear, behind") is a lagoon forming a bay on the Peenestrom river, which flows into the Baltic Sea, and like that estuary is an inland coastal waterbody. This lagoon extends so far into the island of Usedom, that it is only separated from the Baltic Sea by a narrow barrier spit between Ückeritz and Zinnowitz. It is bordered in the north by the peninsula of Gnitz and in the south by the Lieper Winkel.

Peenestrom
The Peenestrom is a strait or river in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Germany. It is 20 Kilometers long and is the westernmost connection of the Szczecin Lagoon with the Baltic Sea. It is therefore also one of the three distributaries of the Oder.

Battle of Wolgast
The Battle of Wolgast was an engagement in the Thirty Years' War, fought on 22 August (O.S. ) or 2 September (N.S. ) 1628 near Wolgast, Duchy of Pomerania, Germany. Danish forces of Christian IV of Denmark had made landfall on Usedom and the adjacent mainland, and expelled the imperial occupation forces. An Imperial army commanded by Albrecht von Wallenstein left besieged Stralsund to confront Christian IV. Ultimately, the Danish forces were defeated.
