Prince William Railway Company

The Prince William Railway Company was the first horse-drawn railway in Germany. It was originally founded as the Deil Valley Railway Company (Deilthaler Eisenbahn Aktiengesellschaft) in 1828 and renamed in 1831. It built a narrow gauge line that ran for a Prussian mile (7,532 metres) along the Deilbach valley from a point near Kupferdreh Old Station in Hinsbeck, a suburb of Kupferdreh (now part of Essen), to Nierenhof near Langenberg (now part of Velbert).

Wuppertal Suspension Railway

The Wuppertal Suspension Railway is a suspension railway in Wuppertal, Germany. Its full name is "Electric Elevated Railway Installation (Suspension Railway), Eugen Langen System" (Anlage einer elektrischen Hochbahn, System Eugen Langen). It is the oldest electric elevated railway with hanging cars in the world and is a unique system.

Tuffi

Tuffi (*1946 in India, † 1989 in Paris, France) was a female circus elephant that became famous in Germany in 1950 when she jumped from the suspended monorail in Wuppertal into the river below. On 21 July 1950 the circus director Franz Althoff had Tuffi, then 4 years old, take the Schwebebahn in Wuppertal, as a marketing gag.

Barmen

Barmen is a former industrial metropolis of the region of Bergisches Land, Germany, which merged with four other towns in 1929 with the city of Wuppertal, North Rhine-Westphalia. Barmen was the birthplace of Friedrich Engels and together with the neighbouring town of Elberfeld founded the first electric suspended monorail tramway system, the Schwebebahn floating tram.
