Wettin Castle

Wettin Castle is a former castle that stood near the town of Wettin on the Saale river in Germany, and which is the ancestral home of the House of Wettin, the dynasty that included several royal families, including that of the current ruling family of the United Kingdom. In 982, Dedo I (d. 1009) and Frederick (d. 1017), sons of Dietrich, count of Hassegau or Hosgau, received lands taken from the Wends, including the county (or Gau) of Wettin on the right bank of the Saale.

Rothenburg Ferry

The Rothenburg Ferry is a cable ferry across the Saale at Rothenburg in Saxony-Anhalt, Germany. Technically, the ferry is a reaction ferry, which is propelled by the current of the water. The ferry is attached to a floating cable which is anchored firmly in the riverbed upstream of the ferry. To operate the ferry, it is angled into the current, causing the force of the current to swing the ferry across the river on the cable.

Saalkreis Nord

Saalkreis Nord was a Verwaltungsgemeinschaft ("collective municipality") in the Saalekreis district, in Saxony-Anhalt, Germany. It was situated northwest of Halle (Saale). The seat of the Verwaltungsgemeinschaft was in Wettin. It was disbanded in January 2011. The Verwaltungsgemeinschaft Saalkreis Nord consisted of the following municipalities: Brachwitz Döblitz Domnitz Gimritz Löbejün Nauendorf Neutz-Lettewitz Plötz Rothenburg
