Hamburger Wappen

The Hamburger Wappen is a highly unusual rock feature on the Teufelsmauer ("Devil's Wall") rock formation not far from Timmenrode in the Harz Mountains in central Germany. The appearance of this sandstone formation, with its three steep, soaring pinnacles of rock, recalls the coat of arms of the Hanseatic city of Hamburg with its three towers. Next to it is a rock cave known as the Kuhstall ("Cow shed"). Not far from the Hamburger Wappen is control point no.

Rosstrappe Chair Lift

The Rosstrappe Chair Lift is a 559 metre-long single-seater chair lift built in 1980 by the firm of Chrudrim. It runs from Thale in the Bode Gorge taking eight minutes to reach the rock massif of the Rosstrappe. The Rosstrappe Chair Lift climbs 250 metres over a length of 668 metres. It has over 13 supports. In 2005 the old chair lift was replaced by a new one. The cable used has a diameter of 28 mm and it is driven by a 40 kW engine in the valley station.

Blankenburg Castle (Harz)

Great Blankenburg Castle was built on the limestone hill of Blankenstein in the town of Blankenburg in the district of Harz in the German state of Saxony-Anhalt. Nearby is the Little Castle with its baroque garden, tea house and museum, the town wall, the pheasant garden, the castle park and the castle pond.

Bode Gorge

The Bode Gorge is a 10 kilometres long ravine that forms part of the Bode valley between Treseburg and Thale in the Harz Mountains of central Germany. The German term, Bodetal (literally "Bode Valley"), is also used in a wider sense to refer to the valleys of the Warme and Kalte Bode rivers that feed the River Bode. At the Bode Gorge, the River Bode, which rises on the highest mountain in the Harz, the Brocken, has cut deeply into the hard Ramberg granite rock.
