Thorsberg moor

The Thorsberg moor (German: Thorsberger Moor, Danish: Thorsberg Mose or Thorsbjerg Mose, Tosbarch, Tåsbjerre "Thor's hill") near Süderbrarup in Anglia, Schleswig-Holstein, Germany, is a peat bog in which the Angles deposited votive offerings for approximately four centuries. It is the location of important Roman Iron Age finds, including early Elder Futhark runic inscriptions such as the Thorsberg chape, a Roman helmet, a shield buckle, and an early example of socks (attached to trousers).

Kappeln-Land

Kappeln-Land is an Amt ("collective municipality") in the district of Schleswig-Flensburg, in Schleswig-Holstein, Germany. It is situated on the north bank of the Schlei, around Kappeln, which is the seat of the Amt, but not part of it. The Amt Kappeln-Land consists of the following municipalities (population in 2005 between brackets): Arnis (313) Grödersby (270) Oersberg (337) Rabenkirchen-Faulück (673)

Angeln

Modern Angeln, also known as Anglia, is a small peninsula (within the larger Jutland peninsula) in Southern Schleswig in the northern Schleswig-Holstein, Germany, protruding into the Bay of Kiel. It is separated from the neighbouring peninsula of Schwansen by the Schlei inlet, and from the Danish island of Als by the Flensburger Förde. Whether ancient Angeln conformed to these borders is uncertain.

Schlei

The Schlei is a narrow inlet of the Baltic Sea in Schleswig-Holstein in northern Germany. It stretches for approximately 20 miles from the Baltic near Kappeln and Arnis to the city of Schleswig. Along the Schlei are many small bays and swamps. The important Viking settlement of Hedeby was located at the head of the firth, but was later abandoned in favor of the city of Schleswig. A museum has been built on the site, telling the story of the abandoned town.
