Democritus University of Thrace

Democritus University of Thrace (DUTH), in Greek: Δημοκρίτειο Πανεπιστήμιο Θράκης, was established in July 1973. It is based in Komotini, Greece and has campuses in the Thracian cities of Xanthi, Alexandroupoli and Orestiada. The university accepted the first students in the academic year 1974–1975. It was named after the ancient Greek philosopher Democritus who was born in the city of Avdira.

Xanthi Ground

A.O. Xanthi Ground is a football stadium in Xanthi, Greece. It used to host Skoda Xanthi until they moved to the Skoda Xanthi Arena in 2004. The stadium holds 9,500 and was built in 1970.

Kimmeria

Kimmeria (Greek: Κιμμέρια, previously known as Kiougioukki, Turkish: Koyunköy) is a community in the municipality Xanthi in the Xanthi regional unit of Greece. It is located 740 kilometers from Athens, 233 kilometers from Thessalonica, and 5 kilometers east of Xanthi. In 1981, the population of Kimmeria was around 3588 inhabitants. In 1991, the population declined to around 2627 inhabitants and now (2008) is around 5000.
