Aughinish, County Limerick

Aughinish is an island in the estuary of the river Shannon, located in County Limerick near Foynes. The island is famous as the seat of Rusal Aughinish, the largest refinery to process bauxite into alumina in Europe. Despite the fact that most of the island is occupied by industry, also the first Irish butterfly sanctuary is housed on Aughinish. The reserve is located in an abandoned quarry.

Askeaton GAA

Askeaton GAA club is a Gaelic Athletic Association club based in the village of Askeaton in County Limerick, Ireland. The club participates in competitions organized by the Limerick GAA county board. In 1891 Askeaton GAA organized a Senior Hurling Tournament in which South Liberties beat Fr. Murphys, a Foynes hurling team. South Liberties had played the Askeaton Desmonds earlier in a place called "the Sugarfield", located in Houghs' (later Kennedy’s) land in Moig.

Cahiracon

Cahiracon, sometimes written as Caheracon, is a small coastal village and townland in County Clare, Ireland. The village is just off the R473 road and is directly across the Shannon Estuary from Foynes in County Limerick. It is home to Saint John Bosco Community College, founded in 2002 as the result of an amalgamation of two older institutions. Cahiracon is within the civil parish of Killadysert and barony of Clonderalaw.

Canon Island

Canon Island (Inis na Canánach in Irish) is an island situated in the River Shannon, about 2.5 km east of the village of Kildysart, County Clare in Ireland. The island is home to the ruins of Canon Island Abbey, an Augustinian monastery built in the late 12th century.

Canon Island Abbey

Canon Island Abbey is a ruined Augustinian monastery located on the extreme northeast corner of Canon Island on the River Shannon in County Clare, Ireland. The abbey was founded in 1189 under the sponsorship of Donal Mór Ua Briain (Donald O'Brien), the king of Thomond. The ruins include a rectangular church measuring 26 metres long and 7 metres wide. Two chapels are accessible via the north wall. The kitchen and refectory are situated to the south of the cloister.
