Belus River
Belus or Belos is a small river in north-western Israel, where according to legend, mentioned by Isidore of Seville in his Etymologiae glass-making was invented. This river is identified with what is now called the Na'aman River, near Acre. Pliny the Elder (N.H. 5.19), using the name 'Pacida', mentions that the river flowed from Lake Cendevia for five miles (8 km) to the sea near "Ptolemais Ace", and that it was celebrated for its vitrous sands.

Sanjak of Acre
The Sanjak of Acre was a prefecture of the Ottoman Empire, located in modern-day northern Israel. The city of Acre was the sanjak's capital. Acre was captured by the Ottoman Sultan Selim I in 1517, but the city fell into disuse soon thereafter. Acre was the center of a major economic boom under the leadership of Dahar al-Omar during the late 18th century. The sanjak of Acre was created c. early 19th century as a prefecture of the Sidon Eyalet.
