Bakans (latv. - Bakanu ezers or Bakans) is a lake in Madona municipality, Latvia. It is located near to Dzelzava village and next to the lake is a smaller village, named Jaunbakani. In the 1930s, an old lake settlement was found in the lake.

Gulbene District

Gulbene District was an administrative division of Latvia, located in the Vidzeme region, in the country's north-east. It was organized into a city and thirteen parishes, each with a local government authority. The main city in the district was Gulbene. In Gulbene, a Baltic single passage narrow-gauge railroad, Gulbene-Aluksne, was renovated and started to operate in 2005. Also, Gulbene has a basketball team, "ASK/Buki-Gulbene".

Dzelzava

Dzelzava is a village in Latvia, Madona district. In 2000 in Dzelzava were 375 inhabitants. In Dzelzava is located Dzelzava estate, built in 1767, in baroque style. It was reibuilt after burning in revolution of 1905. By the estate is set a park with many local and foreign trees and bushes. From 1940 to nowadays building is occupied by Dzelzava primary school.
