Madona District

Madona District was an administrative division of Latvia, located in Vidzeme and Latgale regions, in the country's east. Within the district is the highest point in Latvia - Gaiziņkalns. The district also bordered Latvia's largest lake, Lake Lubāns. Districts were eliminated during the administrative-territorial reform in 2009.

The municipality was formed in 2009 by merging Arona parish, Barkava parish, Bērzaune parish, Dzelzava parish, Kalsnava parish, Lazdona parish, Liezēre parish, Ļaudona parish, Mārciena parish, Mētriena parish, Ošupe parish, Prauliena parish, Sarkaņi parish, Vestiena parish and Madona town the administrative centre being Madona. Total area is 2153,4 km. Municipality's population is 26953 people (01.01.2013.).

Madona Radio Towers

The Madona Radio Towers (Latvian: Madonas Radio Torņi "Madona Radio Towers") were two wooden Latvian radio towers in the town of Madona that were constructed and finished in the year 1932. The Madona radio towers were used as means of communication from 1932, the year the towers were constructed, until 1944, when it was destroyed by the invading German occupants during the second world war.
