Bonds Corner, California

Bonds Corner (formerly, Bends Corner) is an unincorporated community in Imperial County, California a short distance east of El Centro and north of the international border with Baja California. A United States port of entry for trucks entering and exiting the country is located along nearby California State Route 7. Bonds Corner is located 9 miles east of Calexico, at an elevation of 33 feet (10 m). A post office operated at Bonds Corner from 1929 to 1930. The name honors Dr. J.L.

Calexico East Port of Entry

The Calexico East Port of Entry is a border crossing point between the United States and Mexico. It connects the cities of Calexico, California and Mexicali, Baja California. The east crossing was built in 1996 in an effort to divert traffic from the busy Calexico West Port of Entry in downtown Calexico, California. Since that time, all truck traffic entering the United States from Mexicali is inspected at Calexico East.

1979 Imperial Valley earthquake

The 1979 Imperial Valley earthquake occurred at 16:16 Pacific Standard Time on October 15 just south of the United States - Mexico border and impacted the Imperial Valley in southeastern Southern California and the Mexicali Valley in northern Baja California. With a relatively shallow hypocenter, it caused property damage estimated at $30 million, and badly affected the irrigation systems in the Imperial Valley, but was not responsible for any deaths.
