Frise (department)
Frise was the French name of Friesland as a département of the First French Empire. Frise was formed in 1811-01-01, after the Kingdom of Holland was annexed by France. It was the successor of the Friesland Department which was formed in 1802. Its capital, then as now, was Leeuwarden.
