Maraetai

Maraetai is one of the towns which make up Manukau city and is the easternmost suburb of greater Auckland in New Zealand. File:Pier Maraetai Beach Auckland New Zealand. jpg This pier in Maraetai Beach was once used for moving cattle and sheep to boats to be taken to Auckland; now it's a fishing pier. The closest town Beachlands lies approximately 4 km to the West. Its name is Māori meaning "meeting place by the sea".

Duders Beach

Duders Beach (Umupuia Beach) is located in Manukau City, New Zealand, to the east of Maraetai on the North Road from Clevedon. The land was purchased in 1866 from the original Maori owners Ngai Tai by Thomas Duder. Today the beach is divided between the "public beach" and a private beach owned above the high tide mark by his descendants. Duders Beach has traditionally been a good source of seafood, notably shellfish, but stocks have been depleted in recent times.

Beachlands, New Zealand

Beachlands is an outer suburb of Auckland City, New Zealand. It is located on the "Pohutakawa Coast" and in close proximity to Maraetai. The two areas have a combined population of around 4422 (2001 Census). While connected to Auckland's waste water reticulation, all the properties collect their own rain water. Some properties have tapped into the underlying aquifers fed from the adjacent Maraetai-Brookby range of hills. No potable rivers are utilised for potable water locally.
