Oxford, New Zealand

Oxford is a small town of 1,716 people serving the farming community of North Canterbury, New Zealand. It is part of the Waimakariri District. Oxford is a linear town, approximately two kilometres long. For a time Oxford was serviced by the Oxford Branch railway, and had two stations, East Oxford and West Oxford. Due to declining traffic, the line was closed in 1959 and subsequently removed.

Waimakariri Gorge

The Waimakariri Gorge is located on the Waimakariri River in inland Canterbury in the South Island of New Zealand. Like its neighbour, the Rakaia River, the Waimakariri runs through wide shingle beds for much of its length, but is forced through a narrow canyon as it approaches the Canterbury Plains. Much of the gorge is followed by the Midland line. The Waimakariri Gorge Bridge was built in 1876 by William Stokes.

Kowai River

The Kowai River is a river in the Canterbury Region of New Zealand. It rises on the southern flanks of the Torlesse Range and travels south, emerging from the foothills of the Southern Alps near Springfield. The river turns east across the upper Canterbury Plains before joining the Waimakariri River. State Highway 73 follows the river as it climbs towards Porters Pass.

Townshend River

The Townshend River is a river of the Canterbury Region of New Zealand's South Island. It rises in the Puketeraki Range 20 kilometres north of Springfield and flows generally east to reach the Ashley River 10 kilometres north of Oxford, upstream from the Ashley Gorge.
