Kirwee

Kirwee is a town located west of Christchurch in the Canterbury region of New Zealand's South Island. It was named after Karwi in India by retired British Army colonel De Renzie Brett. The 2001 New Zealand Census of Population and Dwellings revealed that Kirwee and its surrounding rural area has a usually resident population of 2,646, an increase of 393 or 17.4% since the 1996 census.

Aylesbury, New Zealand

Aylesbury is a settlement in the Canterbury region of New Zealand. Aylesbury is notable for the railway station which blew away in the storms of 1976. There is currently a shingle pit in the making. The epicentre of the 7.1 magnitude earthquake on Sept 4, 2010 was very close to Aylesbury and the largest land surface fractures were in this locality.

2010 Canterbury earthquake

The 2010 Canterbury earthquake (also known as the Christchurch earthquake or Darfield earthquake) was a 7.1 magnitude earthquake, which struck the South Island of New Zealand at 4:35 am on 4 September 2010 local time . Aftershocks have continued into 2012, with some causing significant damage themselves. The strongest to date, of magnitude 6.3, occurred on 22 February 2011. Because this was centred very close to Christchurch, it was much more destructive, with 185 people being killed.

Darfield, New Zealand

Darfield is a town in the Selwyn District of the South Island of New Zealand. It is located 35 kilometres west from the outskirts of Christchurch, New Zealand on State Highway 73 (The great Alpine highway) and the town is on the Midland railway line, route of the famous TranzAlpine train service. Its population (2001 census) is 1,362. Darfield is the main town between Christchurch and the West Coast, New Zealand.

Hawkins River

The Hawkins River is a river of New Zealand. A major tributary of Canterbury's Selwyn River, it flows generally southeast from its source to the southwest of Springfield, reaching the Selwyn 10 kilometres to the west of Burnham.
