Tiniroto
Tiniroto is a small farming and forestry community on the “inland” road from Gisborne to Wairoa in the eastern part of the North Island of New Zealand. The population of the Tiniroto district at the 2001 New Zealand Census of Population and Dwellings was 2,142, but the district encompasses a vast rural area and Tiniroto itself is defined as a lowly populated locality.

Hackfalls Arboretum
Hackfalls Arboretum is an arboretum in New Zealand. It was founded in the 1950s by Bob Berry. Hackfalls Arboretum is part of “Hackfalls Station”, a sheep and cattle farm of about 10 square kilometres, owned by the Berry family. Hackfalls is situated in Tiniroto, a tiny village in the eastern part of the North Island, between Gisborne (town) and Wairoa. The area of the arboretum is 0.56 km². It stretches along the borders of two lakes. It holds about 3,500 species of trees and shrubs.

Wairoa River (Hawke's Bay)
The Wairoa River runs south for 65 kilometres from the inland east coast region of New Zealand's North Island, west of Gisborne, before flowing into northern Hawke Bay at the town of Wairoa. The full Māori name of the river is: Te Wairoa Hōpūpū Hōnengenenge Mātangi Rau, which means the long, bubbling, swirling, uneven waters. It has a catchment area of 1,415 square miles which includes Lake Waikaremoana.

Ruakituri River
The Ruakituri River is a river of the Gisborne Region of New Zealand's North Island. A major tributary for the Wairoa River, it initially flows northeast from its sources north of Lake Waikareiti. It turns southeast for the majority of its course, reaching the Wairoa at the settlement of Te Reinga, 25 kilometres north of Wairoa.

Hangaroa River
The Hangaroa River is a river in the Gisborne Region of New Zealand. It has its sources in the Huiarau Ranges in the Te Urewera National Park, and flows south and east to merge with the Ruakituri River near Te Reinga. The combined rivers form the Wairoa River, which flows south into Hawke Bay. There are rainbow trout in the upper reaches. The upper river has a rock and stone bed, and flows through native bush with pools and short stretches of rapids.
