Glen Afton

Glen Afton is a village in the Waikato Region of the North Island of New Zealand. Formerly an important coal-mining centre, it consists today of little more than a few houses with very limited services and amenities, although one large and one small open-cast coal mine still operate in the area. The nearest town is Huntly, some 14 km (15 minutes' drive) away. Glen Afton has a Dairy (Store) and a Club Rooms (The Blue Room). Bush Tramway Club

The Bush Tramway Club is a heritage railway 12 km west of Huntly along the Rotowaro Road, in the Waikato region of New Zealand. It regularly operates restored locomotives along a 5.4 km Rotowaro-Glen Afton section of the former Glen Afton Branch. Open days are the first Sunday of the month, April to December (inclusive).

Rotowaro Carbonisation Plant

The Rotowaro Carbonisation Plant, also known as the Waikato Carbonisation Plant, was a coal processing plant in the Rotowaro/Huntly area, New Zealand. It was also the first plant to use the Lurgi process in the Southern Hemisphere.

Rotowaro

Rotowaro was once a small coal mining township approximately 10 km west of Huntly in the Waikato region of New Zealand. The town was built especially for miners houses, but was entirely removed in the 1980s to make way for a large opencast mine.

Ngaruawahia

Ngāruawāhia (pop. 5,106) is a town in the Waikato region of the North Island of New Zealand. It is located 20 km north-west of Hamilton at the confluence of the Waikato and Waipa Rivers, adjacent to the Hakarimata Range. Ngāruawāhia lies within the Hamilton Urban Area, the fourth largest urban area in New Zealand. The location was once considered as a potential capital of New Zealand.
