Heskestad parish was created as Heskestad formannskapsdistrikt in 1837. On 1 January 1965 the majority of Heskestad, with 547 inhabitants, became a part of Lund municipality. At the same time Gyadalen and Grøsfjell with 114 inhabitants were moved to Eigersund municipality.
