Dothan (ancient city)

Dothan (also, Dothaim) was a city located at north of Shechem, and about 100 km north of Hebron. Eusebius places it 12 miles to the north of Sebaste. It has been identified with Tel Dothan located ten kilometers (driving distance) southwest of Jenin, near Dotan Junction of Israel Route 60. It is first mentioned in connection with the history of Joseph where, at the suggestion of Judah, the brothers sold Joseph to the Ishmaelite merchants .

Jenin Governorate

The Jenin Governorate is one of a number of Governorates of the West Bank and Gaza Strip within the Palestinian Territories, it covers the northern extremity of the West Bank including the area around the city of Jenin. According to the Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics 2007 Census, the Governorate had a population of 256,619 living in 47,437 households. 100,701 inhabitants (or 39%) were under the age of 15 and 80,263 (or 31%) were registered refugees.

Battle of Jenin

The Battle of Jenin (April 1–11, 2002) took place in the Jenin refugee camp in the West Bank. Israel Defense Forces (IDF) entered the camp, and other areas under the administration of the Palestinian Authority, during the Second Intifada, as part of Operation Defensive Shield. The Jenin camp was targeted after Israel alleged that it had "served as a launch site for numerous terrorist attacks against both Israeli civilians and Israeli towns and villages in the area.

Sahl Arraba

Sahl Arraba, also Dothan Valley, is a fertile tectonic valley in the northern West Bank. Emek Dotan is mentioned in the Bible as the site where Joseph was sold by his brothers. The region is about eleven kilometers long and four kilometers wide. There are several Palestinian towns located near in and around the valley, including Arrabah, Bir al-Basha, Burqin, Yabad, Qabatiya and Kufeirit.
