Ariel University

The Ariel University previously known as the Ariel University Center of Samaria, is a university located in the Israeli settlement of Ariel in the West Bank. Before becoming a university, it was the largest Israeli public college. The University was founded in 1982 to serve as a regional branch of Bar-Ilan University. Originally located in the settlement of Kedumim, it moved to Ariel in order to expand.

Samaria

Samaria, or the Shomron is a mountainous region in northern Palestine, roughly corresponding to the northern West Bank. The name derives from the ancient city Samaria, the capital of the Kingdom of Israel. During the 1967 Six-Day War, the entire West Bank was captured by Israel from Jordan, which had captured it in the 1948 Arab-Israeli war. Jordan ceded its claim to the area to the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) in November 1988.

Huwwara Checkpoint

Huwwara checkpoint was a major Israel Defense Forces checkpoint at one of the four main exits from Nablus. It was established on October 2000 to prevent smuggling of explosive belts and weapons from Nablus to be used in terror attacks in Israel. The facility was named for the nearby village of Huwwara. The checkpoint has prevented the smuggling of significant amounts of explosives and other weapons. In 2004, soldiers apprehended a 12-year-old boy wearing an explosive belt.

Alonei Shilo

Alonei Shilo is a village and an Israeli settlement in the Samarian hills of the West Bank. Located near Karnei Shomron, the outpost was established in 1999. It was initially named Nof Kaneh after nearby Kaneh stream, but was later renamed after Shilo Levi, who was killed in the 1997 Israeli helicopter disaster. The international community considers Israeli settlements in the West Bank illegal under international law, but the Israeli government disputes this.
