Samaria
Samaria, or the Shomron is a mountainous region in northern Palestine, roughly corresponding to the northern West Bank. The name derives from the ancient city Samaria, the capital of the Kingdom of Israel. During the 1967 Six-Day War, the entire West Bank was captured by Israel from Jordan, which had captured it in the 1948 Arab-Israeli war. Jordan ceded its claim to the area to the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) in November 1988.

Givat Harel
Givat Harel is an Israeli settlement established in 1998. It is under the jurisdiction of the Mateh Binyamin Regional Council in the northern West Bank, north of Nahal Shilo. Givat Harel is situated just off Highway 60 on a hill between Eli and Shilo. The international community considers Israeli settlements in the West Bank illegal under international law, but the Israeli government disputes this.

Ariel University
The Ariel University previously known as the Ariel University Center of Samaria, is a university located in the Israeli settlement of Ariel in the West Bank. Before becoming a university, it was the largest Israeli public college. The University was founded in 1982 to serve as a regional branch of Bar-Ilan University. Originally located in the settlement of Kedumim, it moved to Ariel in order to expand.

Battle of Wadi Haramia
The Battle of Wadi Haramia was the first Hand to hand combat battle fought between the Maccabees and the Seleucid Empire in 167 BC. The Jewish forces were led by Judas Maccabaeus and the Seleucid army force was under the command of Apollonius. After the Maccabean revolt started, Judas relocated his guerrilla combat units at the northern part of the Shomron. Apollonius, governor of Samaria, was sent with the local Samarian armies to link up with Seleucid forces from Jerusalem.
