2006 Southern Leyte mudslide

A massive rock slide-debris avalanche occurred on 17 February 2006 in the Philippine province of Southern Leyte that caused widespread damage and loss of life. The deadly landslide followed a ten-day period of heavy rains and a minor earthquake (magnitude 2.6 on the Richter scale). The official death toll was 1,126.

Libagon, Southern Leyte

Libagon is the home of Southern Leyte's frontier mountain to the world, the Mt. Patag Daku. Libagon is known for its Spanish-style municipal building. It is said to be Eastern Visayas' most Hispanic town. There are some spots that the Libagonians can be proud of, like the Biasong Springs, Pangi Black Sand Beach, Endriga Beach Resort, Uwan-Uwanan Waterfalls, Ruins of the Old Pantalan (seaport) and the old building of the Libagon Academy Foundation, Inc.

Saint Bernard, Southern Leyte

Saint Bernard is a 4th class municipality in the province of Southern Leyte, Philippines. According to the 2010 census, it has a population of 25,169 people in 30 barangays. This town was formerly the largest barrio of San Juan (Cabali-an), then known as "Himatagon". A densely populated barrio, it was a good port. It is situated in the Pacific coast and the first town form the mountain road from the eastern V of Sogod Bay, a cleaved Southern part of the province.

Hinunangan, Southern Leyte

Hinunangan is a 3rd class municipality in the province of Southern Leyte, Philippines. According to the 2010 census, it has a population of 28,415 a 2.47% growth compared to the 2007 census. Hinunangan is known as the "Rice Granary of the Province" for its vast plain land that is entirely planted with rice. Hinunangan, one of the key towns of the province, has great potential for tourism because of its beautiful sand beaches and islands.

San Juan, Southern Leyte

San Juan (Cabali-an) is a 5th class municipality in the province of Southern Leyte, Philippines. It was formerly known as Cabali-an. According to the 2007 National census, it has a total population of 14,442 and 3,055 households. On September 15, 2010, San Juan "Cabalian" celebrate its 150th Founding Anniversary. On June 17, 1961 Republic Act 3088 which changed the name Cabali-an to San Juan was signed into law by the President of the Republic of the Philippines.
