It makes north-eastern part of the Silesian Metropolis, and is located in the Silesian Highlands, on the Czarna Przemsza and Biała Przemsza rivers. Even though Dąbrowa Górnicza belongs to the historic province of Lesser Poland, it now is situated in the Silesian Voivodeship (since 1999), and previously (1975 - 1999) it was in Katowice Voivodeship.
